| ___ Ray at Night: June 2003 Artist: Lydia Richez-Bowman
Lydia Richez-Bowman returned to painting in 1997, after designing and creating silver jewelry and cloisonné jewelry for three years. The journey back to painting has been rewarding, satisfying as well as challenging. Her design background is very influential and is easily apparent in her paintings. Ms. Richez-Bowman uses design elements to create expressions full of rich texture, color and bold abstract statements. She is an intuitive artist and creates in a spontaneous yet meaningful way. Texture and color are extremely important and influence the outcome of each painting.
She works mostly on canvas, with acrylic paint and interjects paper, gold leaf and iridescent pigments. These pigments create changes in light refraction which becomes a visual shift in the painting surface and adds and additional element of interest. Lydia also likes to layer colors as if looking through colored glass and creating depth and light subtleties. She is perpetually drawn to move light in and out of the surface to excite the viewer’s eyes.
